But why charge the 12v battery. Instead why not swap battery terminals with those from 72-12v converter, and completely remove the battery? Wouldn't that provide the required 12v dc without one more conversion cycle (from dc to chemical energy, to dc again)?

Good job. I was going to do something similar to an older Chevtolet s10 pickup truck years ago. I purchased a 20 hp prestolite dc motor for a forklift to use as a traction motor. Unfortunately, due to health problems, and my age, the project just sits. I think , I may have to get moving on it again.

Could you not have used the original vehicle alternator and ran it off the electric motor like the rest of the accessory drives?

This video sparked something in me. I’m now looking for a car to do an EV conversion on. I have one question, though: were you able to use a smaller motor because you kept the transmission in the car, or did you leave three transmission in because it would simply be too much of a hassle to remove? This is an awesome video and this seems to be much simpler than a regular EV swap!

Keeping the pistons is unnecessary as it only reduces the range due to friction. Better remove them and keep only the crankshaft or a simple circular rod that will use the same bearings from the crankshaft. The crankshaft has a rotational mass that affects the range as well and using a simple shaft (circular rod) is cheap and effective.

How are you keeping your mains oiled. What kind of oil bypass did you have to do for the head back into the other side of the block. Have you done a tear down of your lower end to see if you have a new Ware marks or any kind of signs of scoring. Other than the oiling issue I think that this looks like a great idea.

That sounds so horrible. convert your car to be mostly electric. In India it makes ton of sense because you got way to many people there so electric car's make more sense, but your probably going to lose this car in a few years because of this janky setup.

doesn't make sense as the amount of parasitic loss is insane. the motor and the battery has to work overtime to make the crank turn and move the car. also $3k = 2.5L INR which for a fact is not worth the conversion.

Looking at 15 year norm it seems useless. Even an ev have only 20 year of life and your father's car is already 10+ years old... And spending 2.5 lakh just for some year to use... Seems pretty useless.. unless that you have a loophole of that 15 year validity of tge car.
